The new Christopher Children’s Centre was designed to meet accreditation standards for the High/Scope approach to Early Childhood Education. Abundant natural light and views to adjacent outdoor spaces create a sense of engagement with the natural world, and a series of extended threshold spaces for outdoor play offer protection from direct sun and rain. Child-scaled spaces project a comforting, home-like feeling, and visibility between classrooms and the connecting corridor encourages movement and exploration.

The building form emerged as a direct response to the unique conditions of the site, which is entirely surrounded by the rear yards of a residential neighbourhood. This project targets LEED Silver and was awarded the Green Building Wood Works Design Award in 2011.
