Key issues impacting Queen’s Libraries and Archives include their physical components, the technology revolution, pedagogical changes, and new storage and retrieval options. CS&P’s challenge to create a Master Plan reflecting transformational change began with understanding the stakeholders’ needs through a collaborative workshop process. A detailed analysis of the staffing model, the collection, teaching and learning spaces, and operational costs, was undertaken. CS&P developed new space programs and design principles for the Archives and all five Queen’s libraries. The Master Plan includes changes to the use and configuration of each library to optimize their resources and delivery of services, as well as a proposed network of smaller digital libraries utilizing existing heritage buildings.
