Mississauga’s existing Burnhamthorpe Recreation Centre was in need of an architectural renovation and addition to the existing facility to accommodate and serve a growing population of the City of Mississauga. This 43,000 sq ft addition features an impressive indoor aquatic centre, which includes a 25-meter, six-lane swimming pool, a pool climbing wall, and a therapeutic pool. In addition to the aquatic facilities, the expansion includes a state-of-the-art fitness centre, versatile multipurpose rooms, administrative offices, viewing areas, common spaces and a seamless connection and improvement to the existing recreation and ice arenas.
The renovation and expansion project also served as a pioneering effort for the implementation of the new Mississauga Corporate Green Building Standards; achieving Level 1 CGBS, the facility incorporates net zero and passive house principles, a high-performance building envelope, triple glazing and a green roof. The addition of a vibrant new community park further amplifies the lively area.
Overall, the project represents a significant advancement in the City of Mississauga’s commitment to sustainable development and community enrichment, introducing a welcoming, accessible and progressive facility for visitors of all ages.
