CS&P Architects led this collaborative project to assess building conditions, evaluate space needs, and align programmatic goals through stakeholder workshops. The design balances budget constraints while achieving three key objectives: creating a striking gateway feature at the campus entrance, designing a new lobby with acoustic separation from the Maureen Forester Recital Hall, and expanding practice facilities for music students.
Initially seen as separate needs, these elements required an integrated approach. The heart of the project is a spacious, light-filled lobby surrounding the recital hall, featuring a curved, wood-paneled acoustic separation that enables simultaneous use of both spaces. New practice suites extend over Mid-Campus Drive, revitalizing the Aird Building façade and forming a dynamic backdrop for a redesigned plaza with an outdoor performance area. Thoughtfully integrated branding further enhances the campus entrance, reinforcing its identity and transforming it into a welcoming gateway.
